I said in an earlier post I was debating hitting the PokerStars Festival in Lille this coming weekend. After debating it for a week or so I finally decided to take the plunge and book my flights.
It turns out that I’ll actually have the Friday off work so I get an extra day to do my traveling – ideal so I’m not rushed when I get there.
I’ll be getting up at the crack of dawn Friday morning and heading to Malaga airport to catch a 3 hour flight to Brussels. From there I’ll jump on a 1.5 hour train to Lille. I’ve booked a hotel which is in walking distance to both the train station and the Casino so I’ll never have the need for a taxi. It minimizes the costs. The Casino Hotel is a little bit too pricey for me, as tends to be for all these events, however a 5 minute walk away I can get a 4 Star hotel for half the cost – looking after the pennies eh?
I’ll most likely just be playing the one tournament whilst I’m over there.
Its a €550 Super DeepStack (1 re-entry allowed). The tournament has 3 different flights with a tournament guarantee of €100,000. Currently I’m not sure which flight would be the best to enter. I’m thinking perhaps day 1B as this means I could potentially satellite into the event for €60 beforehand.
If the DeepStack doesn’t go to plan then potentially I could play in the NL Holdem Big Sunday events. They are smaller buy in events and look like they’d be played entirely in a single day. Alternatively there is cash poker. I’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it though.
Full schedule is here.
I don’t think I’ll be selling any action for this one. With it just being one event I can afford I think I’ll just shell out the full cost. Issue only arises if I bust quick and I decide I want to re-enter. Not sure it’s a done thing to get staked on a second bullet. I think it’s usually the other way around. I’ll ponder this, but it seems unlikely at this point.
As luck would have it I’m fortunate enough to have the option as results have been going relatively well of late. Tournaments weren’t going to plan last night so I ended up on the cash tables and managed to walk away with a healthy profit to continue the good form.
Lets just hope I can run well in Lille!
For live updates on the tournament as I play it you’ll need to follow @ramblingsofg on Twitter. Otherwise I’ll do a post or two while I’m out there.
